Seeing Through a New Lens
My name is Rachel Burger and recently in my religion class at Gilmour Academy we watched the documentary Invisible Children. I knew there were going to be graphic scenes and I was prepared to see them in a way that I would almost consider shameful. I have seen and have been involuntarily desensitized to violence and bloodshed. This was however unintended, caused by watching war flicks and horror movies at a young age. Even now I still watch them with my friends to see who is scared the most. Because of all of the horrible images I have seen I no longer feel nauseated or sick while watching someone be injured. Though I am desensitized physically from these visuals I still feel and understand what they are going through. I still feel a need to help and to do what I can no matter how helpless I feel towards the situation. It is the reason for starting this Blog. I have no other means at the moment to help physically in other areas of the world, but from what I learned about the Praxis Cycle the first steps before action is Awareness and Analyzing. With this Blog I am creating the first step not only for myself but also for all others that read this. You need to know and understand before you can truly make a difference.
